Happy 2015 New Year

Happy New Year.  With the New Year starting tomorrow several thoughts come in my mind.  My love for family is always strong along with faith in God.  Those will never change.  In 2014 I only rented the longarm At Beth's Quilt Shop three times.  I still have a lot of quilt tops to do, so during 2015 I plan to get more than three tops quilted.  I would like to set a goal of quilting five quilt tops.  In 2014 my goal was to use more scraps.  Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville is my inspiration for that.  My plan for 2015 is to still work on my scraps as Bonnie's ideas are wonderful.  In 2014 I used my embroidery machine very little.  In 2015 I want to incorporate more embroidery designs into my quilts. In 2014 I did not really do any new techniques in quilting, so in 2015 I would like to learn some new ones. One  more added thought, working with scraps does not mean I will stop shopping for fabric as I know that will never happen, however I want to shop for colors that are out of my normal color range. So that is about it for thoughts of 2015.  Not real goals, but thoughts of  happy thoughts and ideas.  Happy New Year y'all.

Grand Illusion Step 5

Gracie's Doll Quilt

I took a break from the mystery quilt this afternoon to make my 16 month old Granddaughter Gracie a doll quilt as one of her Christmas presents.  It is a cheater's cloth, but I thought she might have fun with it.
Now it's back to the mystery quilt "Grand Illusion"

Busy with the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt

Sew, sew and sew some more on the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt.  I finally finished step 2 tonight and made a sample of step 4.  As I mentioned before I have step 3 complete.  I need to go back to step 1 to finish it.  I do have 88 blocks done of that step, so I am close to the end of it.  It's been a fun journey and I am excited to see the end result.  Will sew again tomorrow.

In between I have been working on a knitting project.  Never a dull moment.

Step 3 of MQ Grand Illusion

Well I am  a little further along on the MQ Grand Illusion by Bonnie Hunter.  I now have 88 blocks of Step 1, 38 blocks of Step 2 and 10 blocks of Step 3.  I work a little on each Step and even though I haven't finished a Step I am having fun.  Now I am really not doing scrappy ( I didn't have enough of the colors needed), I have done a little scrappy with Step 3.  Hope it works out OK.

Monday Link Up

I have not completed either Step 1 or Step 2 of the MQ Grand Illusion.  So I still have a long way to go, but I will get 'er done.
This is my backing.  It was a donation fabric and I was lucky to be the recipient.  It has most of the MQ colors in it.  Life doesn't get better than that (LOL).

Grand Illusion Part 2

Part 2 of Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion MQ came out this morning.  I have done my first block and published the picture on facebook, when I realized my white diamonds were not lined up.  So I am just going to have try harder as far as that goes.  Posting it here also.
Going to my Saturday sewing group tomorrow and hopefully I will get further on this MQ.

Grand Illusion MQ

I did not get too far with my Grand Illusion Mystery quilt blocks as I only have 23 done.  I can work on them before the next clue comes out.  I am enjoying all of the posts and pictures of others and they are all so pretty.  It's a  fun group to be doing the MQ with.

Upcoming Retreat Fabric Challenge done

I finished another quilt over last weekend. I rent the longarm at Beth's Quilt Shop in Blanchard. I am not experienced on the longarm, so I did a meandering pattern.

Apple Slices Done

The apple slices I mentioned in the previous post are now done.  I almost gave up a couple of times as they took what seemed like forever.  I am glad I kept going as I think they will make an interesting border. There are 36 apple slices.  They are paper pieced, but I have a good friend who digitized them for the embroidery machine.  Thank you "good friend". Now on to finish the rest of the quilt.

Retreat Fabric Challenge Time

The August retreat is coming up pretty quick so I decided I better get busy. The challenge fabric is the small blue flowers.  The pattern is called "Blue on White" and it is found in Fons and Porter's Easy Quilts Summer 2014 issue.  Now that the top is finished, the next step is to quilt it.  I will post again when I finish the quilting phase.  Until then happy quilting.

Time to Clean Sewing Room

I decided to take time to clean the sewing room.  I still need to to organize under the ironing board. You can see Joy my Boxer guarding my current project on the floor.  She would have preferred laying on it, but I would not let her.
